We recently sampled holiday shopping in Old Town Auburn, but I know you still have last-minute gifts to buy, and you're looking to keep it local, so this week we took a trip to Stella + Parker Revival in Downtown Auburn.
You may have passed by this little gray building on Lincoln Way and wondered what was inside. Now is your chance to check out this cozy cabin store with modern day appeal, and while you're there introduce yourself to owner Deb Arbogast whose hearty laugh will make you feel at home. She and her sister create the displays themselves, and even have a few woodland animals tucked between the shirts and bags for sale.
"We like to have fun," she said.
Arbogast opened Stella + Parker Revival after restoring old bicycles for ten years. The shop is named after her niece and nephew who are now 10 and 20 years old.
"It grew into this," Arbogast said, gesturing all around her.
The store owner hand selects every item -- whether it's new, vintage or created by a local artist.
She hears about the artists through word of mouth, or they find her, or -- like local potter Jessica Agnew -- Arbogast follows them on Instagram.
"Jessica digs up her own clay for her pieces," Arbogast said. "She uses dirt to make the patterns, and everything is wood-fired."
Other treasures shoppers might find include belt buckles, baby booties, lotion, cologne, handmade and vintage jewelry.
What's the hot seller this holiday season?
"This year it seems like a lot more people are spending less and really looking for that super special gift," Arbogast said.
If you are still looking for that super special gift, pop into Stella + Parker Revival, and if you find it, make sure you check out the artwork on Arbogast's shopping bags. Each one boasts a unique illustration hand drawn by the owner.
It's a gift in itself.
